Stand By Me (Slip) [VHS]
$2.94 A sleeper hit when released in 1986, Stand by Me is based on Stephen King's novella "The Body" (from the book Different Seasons); but it's more about the joys and pains of boyhood friendship than a morbid fascination with corpses. Did you stand in line for the new Harry Potter book tonight?
Our Walmart doesn’t even stay open past midnight, but tonight it did so that at 12:01 books could go on sale. It was kind of exciting, all of those people standing around with wristbands on to signify that they had reserved a copy. Ours is being delivered tomorrow though, so we didn’t wait in line.
Yes, I did and I was really surprised at all of the people that turned out and the way the store took many extra steps to prepare an event for the fans. I went to a release in L.A. a few years ago and it was really no big deal with only about 25 people waiting in line for the new book and a couple of the kids were in costume. Tonight I was in Oklahoma, center of the bible belt, in a Borders book store and there were hundreds of people, mostly in costume, having a great time. There were all sorts of games and some activities for the little Potter Heads. I ran into a few friends and we all had a great time. They even had a few theater types doing impersonations of the characters in the books with home-made props and they were pretty good over all. I think that Harry Potter has landed in Heartland, and it’s about time.
