What makes a book stand out to you ?
What makes you want to read more of a book ?
Would a interesting beginning make you read on?
An interesting cover?
A good review?
Or just because it’s a certain genre?
A book stands out to me if it has an interesting cover, has a very luring beginning, and a certain genre like fiction really catches my attention. I read mostly fiction and I’m pretty sure that’s what a lot of teenagers are into. But I am also into other genres, it just has to be magnificently written. I pick up a book if it has a cover interesting to me. I’ll read the short summary in the back or on the inside cover, and if that doesn’t make up my mind about the book, I’ll read the first paragraph or the prologue. I really like books where the beginning draws you in immediately. Rushed or just well written, will get my attention pretty fast.
Reviews on a book don’t really make my decision for me. Many people have different opinions, like I might like something that a different reviewer might have despised. So, having good reviews does make a book stand out, but it won’t base my decision to read the book for me.
Making a book stand out really includes the details you’ve listed above. But good writing is really what I strive for when searching a book. Not only the writing but the actual theme of the book and characters. I am one of those readers who don’t really enjoy reading the cliches over and over again. I like looking for new ideas and new characters. Although some readers do like reading about the same things over and over.
So, this is what makes a book stand out to me.
